"Never made a GIF"
True confession: Neither have I.
I do have at least five tutorials (all requiring expensive software that I don’t own nor am able to access) bookmarked.

I found this charming miaow via the blog of a Google Reader replacement service, TheOldReader. I haven’t tried it yet. It claims to do everything that Google Reader does. I am… hesitant.
I can’t wait much longer. The end will arrive all too soon, for both Google Reader and my favorite home page, iGoogle. Two outstanding questions remain:

@DavidShares has another new Tumblr! He named it GIFbinge.
From the GIFbinge FAQ:
“Not all GIFs are created equally. Due to restrictions of image file sizes on Tumblr, animated GIFs over 1MB can lose their animation after being uploaded…”
I have been curious why some GIFs are animated on my Tumblr dashboard, but not on the permanent page. David answers that, and more:
“Another funny thing. Tumblr does strange things to GIFs, but basically it goes back to file size limits. Tumblr actually creates four images with every upload: Thumbnail, Low-Res, Medium-Res and High-Res, your dashboard shows the Low-Res image… the URL ends with _250.gif. The animated GIF will almost always work with…”
Yes. I don’t know what is happening, but yes.
Also, don’t judge my tab hoarding.
Some one is clearly a fan of Wikipedia! I am even worse about “tab hoarding”. That’s the best name yet I’ve heard for it. It is a terrible habit of mine, too!

Did you know that Scott won a Fulbright Scholarship in 2004? He has a tumblr too.

Tumblr Editor Picks Best GIFs of the Year
topherchris picks 10 great GIFs from the platform for Mashable:
This was was a big year for a certain file format. We witnessed the 25th anniversary of the GIF, the first ever live-GIFing of presidential debates, a large-scale GIF festival and the selection of “GIF” (as a verb, as in to create a GIF file) as U.S. Word of the Year by Oxford Dictionaries. All that, and we still can’t seem to decide how to pronounce it. I’m a militant proponent of the soft g version — as in, Jiff — simply because that’s how the programmers who developed it pronounced it and it seems right to respect their thinking on the matter.

One Gif Compositions are a series of web-based pieces that use found animated gif files to create visual motion studies. Unique animation cycles are formed based on how the browser downloads and caches each of the individual .gif files over time. Each .gif in a given sequence is given a unique file name, convincing the browser to treat them as different images rather than copies of a single file.

For fun, we compiled some of our favorite GIFs from the Off Book Animated GIF episode, and mashed them all together in this short piece. GIFs continue to amaze us, and we hope you enjoy this little tribute to the form!

GIFs by: The Internet. We wish we could attribute all the GIFs we used, but we aren’t even sure if that would be possible! But an extremely special thanks to…
There were 10 URL’s listed as contributors, but I only included the one with which I am personally familiar, none other than dvdp of Tumblr! The rest are listed with the original video posting, over on Youtube.
